Hiya Hun :)

I do agree with what you said on a lot of the stuff using the same old riffs / basslines etc etc , and a lot of the stuff at the mo does all sound the same . . in the time ive been listenin to it not erd too much that sounds new and fresh so to speak . . .

was just his comment sayin " you have to be able to distinguish the good from the bad" really confused me , as you make yr mind up for yrself when youve erd summat for the 1st time weather its crap or not , just cos someone says "its fookin crap" dont make it crap in my book ,

if yr a dj that actual plays it out regular then that comment would have made a lot more sense to me ;) ;) cos you gotta be playin all the best / newest & freshest stuff about , to stay ahead and stand out from all the djs that are jumpin on the funky house bandwagon and playin the same old borin stuff that all sounds the same/similar :)

I can remember the first time i heard...masters at work feat india - To be in love....it blew me away :$ .....sheer class.......and its one o them like u say ben.....stands out a mile and is a totall breath of fresh air....... phones:

I love it, really got into the house sound again once my head had re-emerged from old hardcore in 93. Like Bucky says, yeah it should just be house lol

Peeps have different ideas on what they call funky. Nowadays there are certain tunes that would come under the banner 'funky house'

I buy n play stuff from all over the world that I consider decent house music (with a funky edge lolol), some of it peeps would say ohh thats funky house that, some of the tunes people might go ooh thats tribal house or some bollax like that. Personally I dont give it fk, if it gets my head noddin then it'll do for me.

To the DJ's its all about knowing what your crowd wants out of a night, and sneaking in stuff they didnt know they liked! But they do now!!:D

Viva la difference:)

Bassline house, is kinda like what peeps might call speed garage, but with a 4x4
beat. In general it'll either have a robin s organ style bassline or a ruff drum and bass style warped bassline, both with diva vocals. Some of these tunes are good, some shit. Like everything I suppose.

I play in that room but dont play an hour of the above, like to mix it up a little with loads of different funky style tunes, but still try to ensure they appeal to the massive

lol u still havent a clue :) whats a room gotta do with it ??? :)

whats promotin a night with a funky style house room got to do with it ??? errrrr well if i knew "absolutly nothing" about the said style/s ,for a start i wouldnt even attempt to do a night playin such music if i knew nothing about it to start off . . .

and i would be a lucky guy to get a room that was full and stompin all night up till 5am if i was clueless about these styles , but my 1st night attempting it the room was full and jumpin all night !! ( big up ste H who exactly what i thought he would ;) ;) hence earnin himself a nice residency ) was quietly shocked how well the room did and the feedback / comments from ppl who spent all the night in there :) , and i belive this was down to havin a good mixture of different styles that all come under the , as many would say "funky" and "bassline" styles of house , which ive spent the past 6 months listenin and learning bout what djs play what sort of stuff etc , to so id like to think ive learned enough now about that style to know what is good and what is crap , or better put as - what will plz a crowd and what wont , as that is what matters at the end of the day to me . . . . and prolly to most who go out to listen to the stuff for there night outs :) :) :) as no one wants to hear crap tunes when they go out innit :) :) and i been to many a funky house night myself when its quiet clear they actually do know "fook all" about the music its elf with some of the stuff ive erd which hasnt filled a dancefloor but empited it instead :) :)

I'll throw my opinion, good house, good funky house, good rave has SOUL! Anything that lacks creativity and is manufactured to appeal to the lowest common denominator tends not to have this.

There seems to be a real move back to early house, slower beats, vocals and this is a good thing. there's some great stuff that falls into the 'Funky House' genre, Silicone Soul, Kid Creme, Junior Jack, Bob Sinclair and Masters of Work tyo name a few off the top of my head. Even Arnold Van Helmet, who veers right towards cheese on occasion.

If it makes your spine tingle, and the hairs go up on the back of your neck, or even if it just has the GROOVE, then it's worth investigating.

Hed Kandi started out with this, but I think its gone the way of a lot of club nights in the early to mid nineties, commercialised to the point where you get Wayne and Tracey in sneering at everyone because its the place to be 'seen'. It's a shame, but it seems the more cash there is to be made around something, that's when it goes downhill.

Here's a few of my favourites over the last few years. I could go on for hours mind....

I thought Funky house had its day a while back but with tunes like :

Crystal clear - Live your life
Jordan Fields - The low down double dealin` e.p.
Box office - Just leave me
DJ D pres. Hydraulic dogs - Shake it for me
Res - They say vision
Soul vision - You`ve been on my mind
Bini & Martini - Happiness (my vision is clear)
Moca feat Deanna - Higher
Sandy Rivera - Changes

It was ace

Dunno much about it now but still buy the odd tunes on the Undo label and love the new blaze track :D

p.s. Don`t get funky house mixed up with bassline house lol
