In theory I think its a really good idea cos I hate stinking of smoke when I come in from a night out (and I smoke) and the amount of times Ive been hit with a lit ciggy when Im dancing and knocked mine on peoples backs and stuff, that can only be a good thing and since Ive started smoking again, my hangovers are a lot worse :| :S but where I think its a bit unfair, is when people who have been smoking for years and years and want to go to their local working mens club for a beer and a cig with their mates and they have to go and stand outside in the freezing cold and rain.

My grandad smoked 40 a day all his life and he lived till he was 90 and if he wasnt able to have a smoke in his local!! Perish the thought lol! :|

Its aready happened in Wales and we were down there the other weekend and it wasnt too bad. It did make me smoke less, which is a good thing :)

You can still smoke anywhere where people stay the night, like a hotel, B&B etc. They were allowed to have a smoking room if they wanted to.

I agree with the ban, but it is going to be hard, but at least it will be summer (well hopefully) so standing outside wont be too bad ;)

but i think its a SHAME for people who do smoke lots of cigs as when your in pubs and clubs as thats when you need a cig the most when you have been drinking .
ooh and i always need a cig when a smashed

A couple of months ago I came down with bronchitis, was really poorly, did honestly feel like :hurl: :loo: so I went 2 the docs an he told me 2 stop, which Im pleased 2 say i did, at 1st it was sh*te, the 1st time I dj'd after quitin was a nightmare, I think most of my friends caught the wrong side of my tongue lol, an the 1st time I went out socialising was just as bad, unfortunatly it was my time 2 drive, so I wasn't drinkin, but I felt so awkward, like people was lookin at me, cause I couldn't stop fidgeting, didn't no wat 2 do with my hands, so I do honestly sympathise with ya, but on the bright side, you'll all b in the same boat 2geva:thumbsup:

It does get easier if any of ya wanna quit, Im sure somebody said they're hangovers r worse now they stopped smokin, I'll second that, mine are terrible now, but I wake up, an i dont smell as bad of smoke (my friends all still smoke:S ) an I honestly feel better in myself, apart from the weight I put on  any tips on how 2 shift it would b gr8ly appreciated, or shall we leave that 2 another post :fekked:

lets face it smoking is for mugs (i have been stopped 7 years and smoked for about 20 previous to that)

I've now give up (again!) for 7 weeks & smoked for 23 yrs before that :p

Think the bans a good thing? Why should non-smokers have it forced down their necks on a night out? If smokers wanna kill themselves with cancer sticks thats THEIR/OUR choice, non-smokers chose not to, so should not be forced to be in the same room. End of.

not one person has ever forced a non smoker to go into a nightclub, why ban it?

do you not read

its to protect the people who work there

its an HSE and health and safety at work issue

they are not banning smoking they are just saying you cannot smoke in specific places

same as when it was banned on planes

this is a democracy and the smokers are in the minority on this issue, tough shit

I can understand the need for non-smoking areas, but I can't see why it has to be banned completely. The nanny state has gone mad in my opinion. Why not have a smoking room and a non smoking room? You could find plenty of folk, both smokers and non smokers, willing to work in the smoking room. Get them to sign a waiver to the effect that they won't sue in the unlikely event of ill effects caused solely by working there. I also know which room would contain the most people!

Walk into any pub that currently has a smoking and non smoking section of the same room, and see where all the empty seats are. It's ridiculous to assume that non smokers have been staying away from pubs up until this point, and that they are suddenly going make en-masse trips to the boozer now the government have seen fit to banish smokers.

Yes I know it's bad for me - I'm not under the impression that cigarettes contain vitamin C or something - but I will not be forced to stop by the very government that sticks it's hand in my pocket and helps itself to a fiver on every packet I buy

Im afraid there aint gonna be any smoking rooms at all. Ive heard that Turnmills is thinking of using a hand stamp system so if you want a fag you can get your hand stamped and go out and come in again...bet you have to que or somink to get back in :S

Works well in the States and Canada:thumbsup: They just pop outside and have a fag and a chat in their own area and everybody wakes up smelling really fresh in the morning:eek:   :D

You'd never know you'd been out in your clothes if you didn't spill anything on them or dance in a mucky area:thumbsup:

Seeing as very few people smoke these days it really shouldn't be an issue anymore. It's clearly a risk to other peoples health, just look at Roy Castle who died from lung cancer probably caused from passive smoking.

It can be very fukin cold in Canada but you never hear smokers there comlaining about going for a fag and even the English folk I was living with and who were in our social circles just adopted it like fish to water. It just worked with no fuss!

If people were taking toxic gases into your workplace, there'd be an outcry from smokers and non smokers alike. Nobody has the right to force other people to put up with their toxic fumes.

Just common sense really, it's about protecting peoples health! :)

soz if any duplications here, havent read most of thread but just some observations of mine

Dont smoke, never have :hurl: so it wont affect me personally in the nicotine-slave stakes, but admit it will be nice not to be in a place thats really chokingly smokey and after a night out your clothes / hair etc... smelling of it :king:

re: the ban.... gonna be a bit of difficulties in a pub /club etc.. you cant smoke inside, so you go outside...but you cant take your drink outside :S but if you leave it indoors , you're risking it either being swiftly swiped by some chancer (muhahaha :drevil: could give myself idea here how to have a cheap night out :p j/k
or maybe left behind drinks could get spiked  (and in the really naughty way eg) Rohypnol etc :naughty: )....Shooms is gonna have a field day
;) :p :moonie: :D
lol, or if everyone first finishes their drinks so they can go out for a fag, heavy smokers are gonna end up seriously wankered and skint by half-ten ;)

i read somewhere an idea was to povide lockers to lock it in while you go out but cant see that happening easily, hassle, cost, space etc.. and cant really imagine some of the old 'spit n sawdust' pubs doing all that malarkey , lol

other issues : would there be a more fragmented atmosphere in clubs etc.. if half your crowd were in and out allnight and hundreds gathered outside at a time, puffing away

more fights? eg) people not having a ciggie fo hours and getting agitated blah blah :starwars:

maybe people who are serious smokers just wont bother going out to places sometimes if they know theyve got to be outside loads, cant be arsed. especially in winter or if its raining etc..(espec if coats checked into cloakroom, youre not gonna keep going and getting it back out / or carrying it round all night / lugging a brolly with you etc..)

most of these points are just me pondering over how it will be when it comes in, not trying to get in a row about smokers or non smokers rights etc..
each to their own i say, personal choice and all that...

but generally, i think its a good thing, the passive smoking thing is obviously a plus, so peoples healths arent being affected. :king:
I may be biased as im a non-smoker myself, have always disliked it, and essentially, smoking is what helped to kill my Daddy :( so anything that may possibly contribute to peeps giving up or cutting down, even a tiny bit! is obviously gonna be seen as a good thing by me :)
