Did any of you see Newsnight last night on BBC2.......cos that was intresting. They had two guys on, one thats facing court for his software or peer network, and one from the people trying to shut them down (copyright enforcers of some description or some big music company I dont know as I missed the beginning).

The guy in America who was on satellite link made some good points, such as how the programmers will be stifled from making software advancements in the future through a massive threat of liabality should the court decide that thier "intent" was to cause detrement (blah blah blah).

Another one was that if they lock these down allover, then some people will hopefully make something newer thats totally undetectable to anything, encyrpted to hell or whatever, yet that may be worse for society in other ways as it will allow paedofiles to trade abuse video's and pictures without a chance of being caught at all, and software and music companies will loose out even more.

Another point aside from policing the internet (which is what they want to do, as governments and businesses are scared shitless at the current free reign and power of the people), was how these very companies who take these programmers and innovators to court end up using the technology in thier OWN programs on which they make you pay and where they can promote and market/advertise to thier own ends on. So they are effectively two faced.

We all know they make a bomb on these CD's at 15.99 each when they may cost as little as 3p to mass produce, but I do fear for the artists with all these people who NEVER buy anything anymore. I never got loads of songs off the net, only old skool ones you cant easily buy, and when something comes out like John Digweed @ Fabric, or the New Global Underground cd, I go and buy it, and obviously I still buy records. Its always the muppets who are greedy who spoil things, and the greedy companies that despite an actual RISE in revenue from CD's are still claiming poverty and saying thats why the prices are so high - when we all know they were that high before the net came along.

Anyway. I hope they dont shut peer2peers down - where am I going to download all my porn from? :|

Yeah it must be a hard life being a top selling artist, poor lambs :S

Its no different now than it always has been (before the 'net etc)...the recording artists at the top of the tree are multi millioneires and the ones at the bottom of the tree are skint, but thats nothing to do with p2p, more to do with the ammount of compertition and bent, greedy record companies etc.

I'll admit it....I try to never pay for anything if I can help it........but thats feck all to with p2p, the t'internet or any type of technology....I've always loved gettin' a top touch since i was a nipper, todays technology just makes it easier

anyone still using soulseek, I remember there used to be an oldskool room but that seems to have gone :(

Is there anywhere good for sharing oldskool tunes that i don't know about soulseek was the best minus the leechers (i think user lists killed it).

Search results seem pretty poor was searching for Cool Hand Flex - On The Strength if anyone has it ;)
