Love the Lim Dem response to his sacking

"What is the point of having independent scientific advice if as soon as you get some advice that you don't like, you sack the person who has given it to you?" he said.

Mr Huhne said if the government did not want to take expert scientific advice, it might as well have "a committee of tabloid newspaper editors to advise on drugs policy".

Spot on imho

There's a lot of hypocrisy talked about drugs, mostly from the people in power. The main problem the government has is that they don't make any money out of them apart from alcohol and tobacco and that's the real reason they are the only ones regarded as "acceptable".

If alcohol and tobacco were introduced now it would be interesting to see where they would be positioned in the government's classification table that they seem to hold so much faith in...

Well done for someone actually having the courage to tell the truth (backed up by scientific evidence), it's a pity he lost his job for it. It would be progress in the 21st century if everyone actually got down to a sensible discussion about drugs instead of retorting to tabolid-like adjectives ("abhorrent", "evil") whenever they are mentioned.

Movin' on up.

It was Alan Johnson who sacked him, but the PM would have known.

The whole thing has been handled badly. The scientist has really gone public in a way he knew would irritate the government and they have responded in a stupid fashion by rubbishing the science??

P.s. Sorry for the edit message under your post Jim. I accidentally pressed the wrong button!:S

Despite all the lies of successive parties, people still vote for them:crazy:

I might move to Amsterdam where the populace are treated like adults:cool:

Think this one is going to run and run and we may end up having a sensible debate about drugs for a change (doubtful but it seems to be a start).

More of the others on the board are threatening to resign today (haven`t seen the news yet).

I think that peanuts kill more people than ecstasy - so can we get this all in persepective and be a bit sensible.

The `war on drugs` called for by the politicians was lost many years ago. They just won`t face up to it and come up with a viable alternative.

It's like many issues though. Nobody wants to talk about them and subsequently problems build up until they surface in a way that causes huge public reaction.
