apparently one is on the way

and lol, I had to laugh at it being worded like that, imagining people going in with a dog under their coat and surreptitiously placing it in an amnesty bin :D

but seriously, I think it said something about it being for people to give up dogs that are banned without being arrested. Now im confused... apparently there are 4 types banned in Britain but I was under the impression the dangerous dogs act was more about controllling them and how they behave in public , eg muzzling them blah blah blah

what g'warn? and what are the four types? pit bull i guess but whats the other three? is rottweiler included ...?

i think its aload of bullshit its not the dogs that should be handed in its there owners who bring them up to be aggresive ive met many of supposidly banned breeds some of them have been as soft as shit and other right lil bastard's (the ones brought up as an estate fashion accesorey). the soft ones have been looked after and trained well where the others have been trained for 1 purpose.

and you really think people are going to go and hand in there beloveid dogs to the cozzers to be put down no chance. there would be no amount of money in the world id accept to have my dog killed by no body

Don't worry TC, your Rotties aren't included! Dangerous dogs are:

Pit Bull Terrier
Japanese Toza
Dogo Argentino
Fila Brasileiro.

The dogs aren't banned as such, it's breeding them that isn't allowed. You can have one so long as it's neutered and muzzled in public, I think.

I agree with what was said earlier about it's not the dog's fault but the owner. There's a guy near where I work that seems to have an endless stream of Staffordshire Bull terrier pups. I love dogs, and can't bear to see the way he treats them. He deliberately tries to make them aggressive, and won't let them have human contact. the one pup was so friendly and tried to come to you as it walked past - he would drag it away and hit it. Made me want to hit him! He's a massive f*cker though. People like that shouldn't be allowed to have a dog at all, but they're the ones that always want/seem to have a Japanese Akita/Pit Bull/Rottweiler etc.

Dangerous Dogs

The Dangerous Dogs Act Banned The Breeding Of The 4 Types Listed.
So If Anyone Owns One Now It Must Have Been Born Before The Act Came Into Force In 1991.
So If You Have A Pit Bull Terrier For Example And It Is 3 Years Old ,you Are Not Allowed To Have It Because It Must Have Been Bred After The Act Came Into Force

lol , for some reason-o that-o tickled me-o! :p :D

I know, it sounds like an english tourist named it when he didn't know the Spanish for 'Dog'! They look like ace dogs though, bit like a cross between a Boxer and an English Bull Terrier:

Unfortunatly i didnt have that choice with my old cat. After 13 years of having her she was ripped to shreds on my own front doorstep by a pitbull that was not on a lead. It cost me £35 to have her put down as she clung to life. Ive just this last week found out where the owner lives & have already informed the dog warden & the vets also have the case logged anyway. It appears the dog is already known to the local judge & vets so should be history soon :)

I used to be a dog trainer and behaviourist and I agree with what you have said, no bad dogs, only bad owners and also bad breeders (sometimes the dogs dont stand a chance  ) I dont do it anymore because it wouldnt be long before I grabbed someone by the throat and throttled em.... bring back dog licences that what i say......

wile i agree some of these dick heads need 2 be in jail,
there is a SMALL amount of training needed to make fighting aggresive.
fighting dogs including the 4 main outlawed breads in the uk (pitt bull, tosa inu, dogo argentino & fila brasileiro) have been bread that way over the last 100 yrs. sutch as not 2 recagnise or perform acts of submission ie rolling over & exposing there bellies. so when 1 of these dogs kicks of it is devistating. this type of breeding has also been used on dogs such as bulldogs to acheve the oposit results. 100 yrs ago the bullbog was a very dangerous dog. in my oppinion having a pitt bull around kids is irisposable regardles of there temprament. this is a very unpradictable breed. if the law had been inforced 16 yrs ago when it was saposed 2 be then these dogs would not be facing the fate they are now.

this is true but as the law came out in 1991. your dog would have to be at leased 15 yrs old to be legal

The dangerous dogs law is an ass.........it was brought in knee jerk reaction style to calm the public after a spate of attacks back in the 90's. The blanket banning of certain breeds was never going to work as there are always ways around it. Its bad breeders and bad owners that should be brought to justice........dog licences, compulsary microchipping and compulsary obedience training classes are a few things that should be introduced for all breeds..........especially large breeds (early socialisation makes a huge difference) and every true responsible owner would happily go along with them all. Its a shame because alot of perfectly nice ' pit bull types' (meaning that you could cross any kind of dog but if it reached a certain height, weight and look and it would fall into this catagory) will suffer because of some no brained retard who thinks he looks hard cause he has a snarling beast attached to the end of a lead! Its quite scary for us at the mo as we live minutes away from the latest mauling (god rest her little soul) and having an American Bulldog theres many people who think that these dogs are 'pitbulls'. im just waiting for the rspca to call or for some poison meat to come flying over the fence!

My mum has a young staff bull terrier at her pub and its the most energetic playful thing dog i have ever come across. Cant imagine it ever acting like some of these type of dogs do. Its all about its upbringing like you say and this dog i just mollycuddled rather than being treat aggressively.

I've encountered a few nasty dogs in my time (yes, yes....the four legged variety) and I agree with what most people say about "no bad dogs, just bad owners" etc etc, but...........

There was a Rottweiller near where we used to live and one night when I was out with my Collie-cross (on a lead), it came around the corner (not on a lead) and went straight for my dog.

I let my dog go to give him a fighting chance and while the Rottweiller and him were scuffling I grabbed the feckin thing by the back of the collar and started to strangle the tw*t. It let go of my dog and turned its attention to me.........My dog took full advantage of this and ran round and started biting its arse!! lol

Anyway.....the Rottweillers owner came round the corner and gave it the old "what's going on here"........and I gave it the "get this fookin dog on a lead before I kill it you prick" kinda thing..........all over and done with.

Anyway...........before this incident, I'd seen this Rottweiller a few times and always said it had a funny look in it's eyes....kinda "vacant".....maybe as some psycopaths have been described. I spoke to it's owner a few times and he always seemed to be very strict with the dog and it did generally do as he asked/told it. I don't think he was a bad owner, but I do believe that it was a bad dog

After the strangling affair, it always stared like hell at me whenever it walked past and out two dogs fookin hated eachother.

I was going to poison it, but never got round to it before we moved house.

According to experts, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are one of the best breeds to have if you want a dog and have young children. I believe this is due to their good nature and high tolerance to pain and hassle.

dee dee you r spot on about the dda. it was put in place to ease the panic & there ar ways around it. such as regestering pitt bulls as staffs. so called leggie type (irish staffs). but as long as Roxy is registerd & the am bulldog stays of the dda list no 1 can take her away from u & when she is fully grown there is no way you could mistake her for a pitt so dont worry 2 much chick

Dogs scare the shit outta me anyway ( was bit by one as a kid  )but I agree with the case that it's the owners a high percentage of the time. Same with the majotiry of effing chavs etc. It's what they have been brought up as. Hence a large population of yoof today need a lesson with a large stick being weilded and bugger that if "it's wrong to do so". It's wrong to stick lighted bits of paper through letterboxes and stuff. GGGGGGRrrrrrrrrr. You can tell I've had a day full of it at work can;t you.

This is a prime example of bad breeding........true breeders who are passionate about a breed would cull suspect pups (there are many ways of temprement testing pups) rather than just try to make money by selling them

and biggz i know you are right in saying that they are not covered by the DDA but it looks like it will only be a matter of time !!! our friend after hearing some rumours about AB's being seized here actually phoned the police (he owns a AB and an irish staff) and was told that they are seizing AB's if you cannot produce the paperwork! They also said that if you own one to ring the dog warden and police and they will come to visit you (do i look like an idiot!) Our roxy's paper work is still being proscessed in the states..........anyhoo the breeder is going to phone the peeps in the usa and explain the situation here and get them fed ex'ed over asap..........when i get them in my hands i will breathe easier!!! already some one here has had 6 ab's seized and a number of Ab owners have had midnight visits:cops: but have had the relevant paperwork and they have left empty handed........the witch hunt begins.....
the 'dog expert copper' that travelled down from London to view the Ab's here told the owner that 'it only has to look like a pitt in *his* eyes and he will seize it' some expert hey!!!

prob is if pups are temperament tested it isnt till about 6 weeks PLUS when pups leave their mum, at 7-8 weeks they can still seem quite 'normal'

bottom line is if sire and dam are 'suspect' and havent had relevant health tests (breed specific) dont breed from em... bad breeding isnt done by responsible breeders - most of the time by 'joe public' or those out for a fast buck and havent got a clue what they are doing. theres more to breeding quality dogs than putting a random dog and bitch together.

yeah your right........The kind of temprement testing that we have come across was about deciding on which pup went to which home ie: a pup that was showing a lot of game would not be placed with a person who wanted just a family pet but with the person who wanted to train it in schutzhund etc...........we had a dog that we had for two years before it started to show aggression problems, it was a rescue dog and i imagine had already been temprement tested before leaving the kennels.........two years later after showing little sign of being unsound she started to become aggresive............it was heartbreaking to do but we had to get rid (she was an american bulldog also) but in hindsight it was the best decision we ever made!
as well as the right breedings (getting rid of aggression and health issues, displasia etc) good breeders will vet the people they are sending their pups too and also not breed until they have a waiting list ensuring that the pups all have homes waiting for them............well thats what we have found in the bulldog world and i hope it is the same for most legit breeders and i think that this should apply as a rule........its just enforcing the changes that are the real problem
