This may be a figment of my imagination but I'm sure someone once told me that the balearic genius that is 'La Version Francais' was actually created by Chris Rea himself and Paul Oakenfold

Unfortunately this was told to me after I'd had a chance to check with Mr Rea himself, but i just wondered if anyone else had ever heard this? It does seem suspect to me in that someone like Oakenfold who was never shy about telling everyone about his achievments - inventing house , trance, balearic, christianity etc.......never mentioned it in his interviews, but then again......:fekked:

Anyone know for sure.......and it's not on the record so don't bother checking!

I've never heard of Oakenfold being involved on this track.... and Ive seen it discussed a lot - it would however be possible as he worked for record labels in this mid 80s period and did a quite a few edits/mixes - some of which I am sure were uncredited as this was before he had a name as a DJ - and also because "DJ" remixes were not done by UK DJ's but generally New York based ones

I know that the first person to really get behind this version of Josephine was Danny Rampling and you would have thought that PO would have liked to get a bit of credit if he had been involved as it became a big anthem

year was this originally released? think the first credited oakenfold production is jungle fever in 1987

I think that the Chris Rea French Version was around in 88

Ive seen Oakenfolds name on records before, Ive definatly got a UK release Peech Boys 12" that has an edit by him on - i seem to remember he was involved in a mix on one of the early Jazzy Jefff and Fresh Prince singles

Is there an instrumental of this tune?

The versions I have start nice then the fecker sings and kills it :|

Sacre Blue!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though i do have a slate with an instrumental I cut from the remix parts we had.....but it's not for general consumption, and anyway it's not a patch on the vocal mix.phones:
