Any good working ideas on giving up smoking?

I quit today within 3 hrs of not having one I rushed of from work to the chemist and had to get some patches LOL. They are working but any other working tactics would be helpfull

cheers

Decorating (thats what i did), takes ur mind off it;)
Also its the anxiety of not smoking that makes u a bit manic, ur gp can give u a temp supply of a small dose of calming pills to keep the stress at bay.:) nothing u get addicted to though

A lot of my mates found accupunture worked :D

wot I did find does help is the inhaler thing...after i got over the fact that it gave me real bad indigestion...that does go away after a while.......the chewing gums gave me mouth ulscers tho so not sure about them at all.:S

me and si gave up just over 3 months ago the first week was the hardest for me but we just used will power and a lot of chewing gum, tell u what tho my chest feels back to normal now i used to get some wicked coughs when i got a cold lol i used to sound like a dog thats why i gave up i wouldnt of been able to go on much longer lol. The longer u go the further apart the cravings get too, i do get times when i see my mate having a fag and just think give me some lol. The best thing to do too is avoid beer if u drink for your first 2 weeks i found that out the first week was a killer but i did it and feel great now anyway good luck hope you do it its worth it :)

I wish I could help you mate but I have just started smoking again after quitting for 2 months, The only advice I can think of is no matter how many arguments or how stressed you feel you have just got to keep saying to yourself why should I undo all that hard work for the sake of a fag? which is exactly what I am thinking now & Ive got to go through this all over again:|

Hypnotherapy:thumbsup:

I was a great smoker, and very very good at it.

Spent 80 quid on an hour's hypnotherapy and I've been a non smoker for over 3 months. Put a tab out on the way into the gaff, and came out not wanting one.

The chemical addiction was rank for the first 3 days, then it got better. The hypno dude altered my thinking so it was as if I had never been a smoker. That is the odd part.... you know there is something missing but can't associate it with fags. The wife smokes, and even sat with her doesn't make me want one.

Best 80 I've ever spent.

im like herpes....never quite fcuk hoff!!!
im not a smoker at all and never have been (dont jump on me coz im one of them:$ ) but i do sympathise with people trying to give up, my mum gave up a few years ago now and to be perfectly honest i didnt think she could ever do it!!!!!! but low n behold she proved us wrong and im so proud of her for doing it:love:

she went through years of people telling her to give up and she was very stubborn and said im not giving up because im being told to giver up............so the more people carried on telling her the more she smoked!!

one day she came in from the docs n said ive give up smoking!!

she did it by getting Zyban prescribed from the doctors, and you sort of wean urself off fags over a number of days.........she just gave up straight away and didnt even finish the first week of tablets:|

she found that lucozade dextrose sweets helped and also muching her way through seeds from the health shop,

it did the trick and she never puffed again:love:

i realy hope your all giving up for the right reasons and with words of support n encouragement from friends n family you will do it!!!

good luck:luv:

We helped my friend stop smokin.........

My mum is a nurse, and she got loads and loads of info to give to her, and patches etc. What made her quit in the end, was seeing on paper how much the bloody things cost! and how much money she could save by not buying them! Whats also interesting is that after x amount of years your lungs can get better *not as they were* but better.

I suggest finding shit like that out for self shock tactics. Also, dont ever let yourself be bored at break times, or when you have nothing to do.....because you'll want a cig for the fact that it was purely 'something you did'. Get chewing gum or a lollypop instead.

:)

:) ill try that today

Its been a whole day now lol, I must say that these patches are working, but knowing my luck Ill be addicted to them instead.

I just keep telling myself how much money I can save, at the end of the week I can buy whatever the wife wants to buy :$

Its a year ago today:D since i gave up smoking :tonksi: an i wont say its been easy, lol i could still murder one from time to time but i think after the first 3 weeks or so it does get easier. I managed on patches alone but stayed on them for six months in total.

Good luck with it mate:thumbsup:

Jus stop smokin. I did it 3 years ago from 1 day to another. I jus said to myself thats its shit to pay money for a toxic. U have 1 week physical pain, after that its only sy-kick. I 4 myself always had some cigarettes with me, so that I could say: Ig ot that shit with me, but I dont wanna use it. Best way imo :)

Jus do it
