'They' say 'never give up giving up' & i tell ya it's true.

I've smoked for eerrrmmm....(fingers)......eeerrmmm....(toes).....lol...22 years now & have tried giving up 100's of times. Last year had another go and i was amazed how easy it was, did a week on patches and just KNEW i did not even need them...so stoppped the patches & did not evben think about a ciggie (even went out & got :fekked: two weeks later with no fags all night!)

But.....you know whats coming dont ya...Some bad shit happened in my life (Those who know me, know the score & know it's understandable) After 7 monthes was back on 'em  In fact up til christmas was upto 40 a day) :hurl:

But give up on NYE this year & has been same again...pretty easy

Did only a week on patches then had it straight in me head that fags are s*it plus i'm saving 70 quid a week...280 a month is nearly half my mortgage FFS! :S Must admit have hade the odd crafty one, but none at work at all. Feel i'm in the right state of mind for giving up again

So good luck mate & just remember the craving for a fag only lasts 3 mins, so stick an Airwaves in ya gob & by the time the flavours gone you'll of forgot about the cancer stick.

The hardest bits are supposed to be 3 mins (see above!) 3 days & 3 weeks, get through them & you've sussed it.

[edit] PaulJohn.....Respect..& RIP your mum.

Why not download Paul McKenna's Podcasts from The Times (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,7-2533745,00.html).

I gave up by simply going 'cold turkey' and keeping busy. They say that after 3 days, the Nicotine is out of your system. They might seem like a hellish first 3 days, but if you take up running, swimming etc, you stand a good chance I think. Feel soooo much better having quit. Hardest bit is when you get pissed or wasted; you can still get craving well after you've quit.

I wever went for patches; just thought they would prolong the agony as all they do is still feed the Nic addition. After all, the drug companies who make the patches and gums are in it for the money !

Best of luck.

Hypnotherapy:thumbsup:
Spent 80 quid on an hour's hypnotherapy and I've been a non smoker for over 3 months. Put a tab out on the way into the gaff, and came out not wanting one.The chemical addiction was rank for the first 3 days, then it got better. The hypno dude altered my thinking so it was as if I had never been a smoker. That is the odd part.... you know there is something missing but can't associate it with fags. The wife smokes, and even sat with her doesn't make me want one. Best 80 I've ever spent.

i did the hypno thing a few years ago, and managed to stop for 12 months, had a massiv crisis in my life, a friend rode to my rescue, but i hadnt seen that friend for over a year due to her being overseas. she walked thru the door, lit 2 fags put one in my mouth and instantly i was a smoker again. i'm not being negative just always be on the look out for pos hurdles. the irony is for the whole year i didnt smoke, i found it quite easy after the 1st week. so just dont have one and think 'just today, i'll go back to being a non smoker tomorrow.' it just doesnt work like that!! go for the hypno thing m8 its the best chance you have. i'm booking an appointment next week, have found a place that charges one fee even if you have to go back a few times which is sometimes the case so dont get ripped off at £80 a time!!!! and check theyre accredited, damn some sneaky charlatans (not the band!!!)

and finally good luck.

GOD BLESS MY MOM

I hear ya mate. My Uncle had a serious operatin on Monday this week to remove a cancerous tumor from his lungs. Ive just come back from the hospital and its really hit me for 6......Im really really gonna give up properly now and no messin!

I knew it was time to quit when i realized I'd been smoking for half my life! A few people had recommended the Alan Carr course so I did that, £220 for a 1 day course which dealt with every aspect of smoking - and the various elements to the addiction. A bit of hypno and that was that, I got a bit grumpy for a couple of days and that was it.

Now here's the bit that really surprised me; I thought I'd have to knock smoking spliffs on the head because that would get me back onto cigs again. I left it 3 months and now can quite happily smoke J's and still have no cravings for cigs!!! Even if I get stoned every night for a week and then don't touch em again for 3 weeks - no cravings, no nothing! :D

It's expensive but it works! Allen Carr Worldwide
