Your First Ever Dj Experience ...

so what was your first dj'in experience like!? - how did it go? any blunders!? where did ya play? etc...

mine was ok really nervous like but once got into it was all good! only dj'd in a local bar but was good to play out and get sum experience, be there doin it again tonight

i blagged my way into a club at 15 sayin i was the guest dj lol the person on the door told me i was late and to get straight upstairs :| the dj at the time wanted off and said for me to go on. i had never been this close to decks b4 so i asked for a few mins watched what buttons he was useing and then took over luckily for me i had a top selection of tunes that i had been buying with the £ i had been nicking from work. they even asked me to go back the next week which i did and did so for about 3 months

never did find out who i was supposed to be lol.

My one and only time playing out and its not technically out, it was a house party. My mate asked me to go on the decks cos the only DJ they had there wanted a break!! I was pissed as a fart and cant remember half of what I played, they were someone elses records lol The decks were on top of the fridge so people kept getting in my way to get to the alcohol it was quite dark so I couldnt really see what I was doing and I had some bloke trying to chat me up while I was mixing lol :|

I cleared half the party as they didnt like the old skool I was playing but the other half loved it and stayed and kept asking me to play more phones:

So it was quite an experience really, I reck I could handle a packed club no problem!! :| lol

Went on a course in 1998 - they also did things like sequencing, engineering, pianos and guitars. Had a dance night where some budding DJs would strutt their stuff - I was SO nervous playing in front of loads of people I didn't know, so lucky it was only 20 mins. Tracklist was:
GTO - Pure
Gat Decor - Passion
Moby - Go
CJ Bolland - Horsepower.

Somehow, every mix came out perfectly!

My first night DJing was at the Atticus Bar in Manchester (next to the Athenaeum). I was booked to play bog standard charty dance. So, I played old skool instead, hahaha! Didn't really fuck up (as far as I can remember) though I had my first taste of out of touch randoms asking for Britney Spears and stuff like that.....:| (Whilst the tune playing was DJ Seduction - Hardcore Heaven.) Only cottoned onto the fact it was pretty much a gay bar when I played Shades Of Rhythm - Sound Of Eden and most of the men in their were singing "queen, baby" and pointing at the bloke they were dancing with.....:|

Still, good learning curve for me, as at that time I didn't have Technics decks at home (only a pair of leathered Soundlabs, yep times were hard back then lol)

Got £70 for it and free beer.

my 1st experience of playing out was @ Sweet's 30th birthday party was my 1st OSA meetup too.... was easy enough for me coz I was playing all of Sweet's most favourite tunes so even if the mix was shite I knew the tunes would be appreciated

Mine was at a pub in stockport, i was a tad nervous before going on so decided to drink double vodka n cokes , haha!! By the time i got on (about 11pm) me and the rest of the pub were well sozzled, i played oldskool hardcore and they feckin loved it, didnt make any mistakes, and i loved every second of it, went back on later doing a back 2 back with another guy, it was ace!!

Yeah, Ant and Sara were there, and yeah, Vix should have come but they went to the Athenaeum bit and the bouncers wouldn't let Alannah in.

And yeah, I remember the guy giving it loads on the bar. He said he wanted my number to do some nights in London as that was where he was moving to, needless to say I wasn't wasn't keen on giving a gay man my mobile number.......:| ......might have got the wrong idea, like.....:| :|

My first time DJing in a Club was probably 1994 at a club called Whipps in Huddersfield (previously Ambience in the Rave Heyday). It was a west Indian owed club and the owner D-roy was a sound guy. I can remember one quiet night, and afterwards, the owner was laughing and saying (In a broad Jamaican accent) Ha Ha Maaah Deeejaays than peeeple. which became a bit of a phrase for a while LOL.
