reet.....

i always thought

1200 = silver

1210 = black

same mechanics and shit... but people keep telling me 1200s are better, are they just trying to think they know shit? coz my mate has 1200s and i have 1210s and sumone sed 1200's were better so he started to bum him...

so does the silver paint make 1200's so far superior or is there an actual mechanical reason?? :confused: :confused:

As far as i know the 1200's are identical to the 1210's apart from the silver finish. I just bought a pair of 1200's.
I cant understand the price difference tho, 1210's are quoted at £380 in some stores, whereas the 1200's can bring £449 at other places...!!!

Maybe they are seen as more 'retro'??

I've got 1210's, but have used both at various stages. They both play records using a circular kind of motion which I find tends to get the best audio reproduction from a grooved slab of vinyl.

I did hear that the 1200 (silver) were for the US market and 1210 (black) were for elsewhere... but like many things... it could just be bollox!

Have a great weekend everyone! I am off to Firefly for the Phil Hartnoll Set (www.ilovefirefly.co.uk)

used to have an old technics catalogue -
the only difference in tech specs was colour

imho - 1200's - for old skool hip hop scratching
1210's - for house & techno

both class machines

ive got the silver ones after having 3 sets of black belt drive copies !

I`m going back a few years now , i was talking to a friend of a friend he was saying the difference was not just colour, the build of a 1200 was actual better the 1210 , As the 1200 was built in a different part of the country, and was hand assembled.

Anybody Else heard of this??????

I found this on the net ....

The newer Technics 1210 version is a little more than just the phat black color. According to Brotha Boogie, the original SL1200's have the quickest pick up, quicker than the 1210's. However 1210's sacrifice a little bit of this pick up for stability.
Brian Dresner reports that the start/stop speed difference of a 1210 is about .1 of a second than a 1200. A turntablist named Chris, from Sydney Austrailia wrote saying,
"The only difference between the 1200 and 1210's is the power source within the turntable that compensates for the 0.1 second difference. The 1200 is the only turntable officaially realeased by Technics in the USA, the 1210 is not officially made for the US, and you will notice that under the plater it has a switch for 110/220v while the US version does not have this. The 1200 versions for the rest of the world have the switch under the plater. So if you compare a US 1200 with a Japanese version 1200 the difference will be 0.1 of a second, because of the internal power transformer. "

You know I am a man of my word.

And, for the record: I've actually got a pair of black Stanton slipmats, a silver record case.... but yes, I actually do use pink Ortofon scratchmasters (you f*cker, who told you?) :mad:
