Looking for DJ Greeny / Mark Green – Maximes Wigan & New Dawn/The Gallery, 1992–93
Bit of a long shot, but I’m hoping one of the old tape collectors might be able to help.
I’m trying to find any surviving recordings of DJ Greeny (Mark Green/Mark Greensmith), who DJed at Maximes in Wigan in the early 1990s and also played upstairs at The Gallery, Newcastle-under-Lyme, around the New Dawn period.
Greeny was an old school friend of mine and used to make one-off mixtapes especially for me. Sadly, those tapes disappeared over the intervening decades, and I would dearly love to hear him play again.
I know that at least one recording has circulated as:
DJ Greeny – Maximes @ Wigan – 23 October 1993
There also appears to have been:
DJ Greeny & DJ Rap – New Dawn / Signal FM – 5 July 1992
and a recording listed as:
Daz Willot, Greeny & Adam Brewer – Live @ Maximes Wigan – 1992
Greeny had a fantastic ear for underground vocal house. At The Gallery, Traxx generally played the main room while Greeny played upstairs — which, to my ears at least, was where the really interesting music was!
I’m not trying to trace Mark personally or intrude on his privacy. I’m simply hoping that somebody from the old Maximes/New Dawn tape-trading community might still have one of his sets on cassette, CD, MiniDisc, MP3 or an old hard drive.
Even a partial recording would mean an enormous amount to me.
If any of those filenames ring a bell — or you’ve got an old box of Maximes/New Dawn tapes gathering dust somewhere — I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d have a look.
