Just wanted to let my friends know (in a quick and easy way through osa) about some of the good things that have happened to me.....and its only Tuesday!!!

I've been accepted onto the conversion GDL course for law starting september 2007! :) :) :) Got all 3 places I applied for, and will be studying in Manchester. Hopefully this is the real start of my career!

Tonight I was in the regional finals of MissStudent.com. I came 3rd place and won £150....as well as a place in the national finals and a chance to win £10,000!!!!!! :)
If anyone would like to come and show their support, the finals are on the 30th April, at the Printworks in Manchester. The girl who won tonight, won because she had like 10 million supporters there, and the places were decided by text and shout votes!!!!! I had about 5 people hehe! Its free drinks all night in the VIP area if you are my guest, so please let me know and I can arrange it. Would be lovely to see some faces from OSA there.....not seen anyone in a while!

So, thats my news. Does anyone else have any?

Who came 1st?

Fabulous news dear. I'm having a grand old week as well, after a grand old weekend. The sun is shining, just been cruising around like sad biatches in my friends new open top tigra between lectures  going dancing in an hour (lolol) and out for my mates 22nd tonight.

I got into all 3 places for my LPC as well t'other week, just filling in my acceptance letter as we speak as i'm gonna miss the deadline if I leave it any longer.

Which estab are you doing your GDL at?? BPP? Col of law? I'm accepting BPP Leeds, woo woo! Right where I want to be at this point in my life...not ready for London yet :$

Oh god I don't know! Its a fantastic qualification to have, and will open all sorts of other doors once you get it. Go for a smaller boutique type firm specializing in the area of law you are really interested, avoiding the top 10-20 where you'll be treated like an imbecile for your training contract and treated like dirt.

As you say most of them are drones, two track minds, power and how they look materially, either money or snob value.

The only other thing to consider is if you can get a big firm with a really good specialist department you might avoid the hazing that goes on in corporate law. So environmental for example, or private client, none of drones, back stabbing, where you came from snobbery, and better hours, but still the prestige and salary. You can then go into that chosen industry later on outside of private practice.....

Yeah private client & environmental look slightly less soul destroying, and TMT media stuff, without dredging as far as to family & criminal, its just the dip in salary i'd be worried about with niche stuff...horrible way to think really :condom: ...if theres a way round it i'm gonna damn well find it somehow...top/high paying firm that isn't all corporate/commercial...I found a few that look promising in that training contract handbook earlier

Whats going on with your career at the moment anyway ed me old sausage?!!

Oooh its all happening lol. I have an offer on the table from a US investment bank to do Regulatory stuff, but m also talking to a another one about a similar role (although the US one has really nice people). I went in to discuss the offer on Fri and I think I talked myself into being made an even better one! Wasn't angling for it, just being honest. I've also got a 3rd interview with a European Investment bank on Monday about a job in Tokyo, with the full ex pat package and living the dream. Should know by middle of next week I hope. Interesting times lol. Been enjoying nearly 3 months of gardening leave, going back to work will be a terrible shock either way!

Brilliant!!! :D :D :D

Two of my friends are desperate to get into investment banking, they have a few contacts through their daddys but poop academic records.

Is it really hard to get into?

Yes incredibly difficult to get in as an investment banker, but not with the contacts. If you are a comprehensive educated warringtonian its done on pure luck and a load of blagging, but I work on the legal and compliance side, not the finance side. Tell them to be prepared to work like a Japanese prisoner of war... They'll also get to treat lawyers from top City law firms like their bitches as well lol.

Lolol. Maybe I should look into this instead...I can't possibly be the bitch of my essex-bred, contact-fed, self-confessed backward achiever bessie mate. Or of you for that matter. See you at the finish line eddy-boy :gigolo: :hubba:  ;)

Yeah look into it. They do summer placements like law firms, but better paid. Good to shop around. Give us a shout if you want info on the good banks etc.

Ha, there is no finish line, it just keeps going and you just have to keep focused on the moment in hand as best you can ;) The only competion is keeping yourself happy and balanced in a world full of madness :D
