Agree or disagree??

Personally i agree with this. We all have the right to live so we should all have the right to die in a dignified manner. We put sick animals to sleep, so why can we not choose this for ourselves?? :S

blinkin flip... nice lightweight subject, eh? ;)

I agree with it too in principle.
The problem comes when it's not easy to work out whether someone truly wants to "go" or not, or is being influenced by family or whatever.
It's a huge grey area & can of worms.
Lots of lawyers will get fat off legal battles over this.

Of course, if peeps are terminally ill & have no quality of life etc. & volunteer to go, it's a selfless act & they should be commended for it but more often than not it'll be impossible to prove beyond doubt that it's truly what they want & they understand all the implications...

Just like with murder trials, if you can't prove it beyond doubt, then you can't act on it.

I know itsnt as cut and dried as all that but id like to think that if ever i was in that position i could chose what happened to me or those who were close to me could do so on my behalf.....after all they know me better than any doctor

yeah, problem is that your idea of who "the people close to you" are might be different from a court's idea... and you might not be in a position to correct this (depending on what's wrong with you).
Wills & legacies & inheritances (is that a word?) bring out the very worst in people. Just ask Mike Baldwin!

I totally agree with it in an ideal world. But don't think it'd ever be that clear cut.

Sniffing glue........again!
The subject of euthanasia is way too broad to be able to just say it should or shouldn't be allowed!!!!!! I'm currently writing a paper on the subject and i'm struggling to keep it down to 5,000 words there so much to it.

One of the things which i have considered in my paper is that whilst the patient should be allowed the right to die, should they have the right to expect someone to do the deed of ending their life??

I could go on and on here but i won't!!!:D

But hasnt some dr invented a lethal injection kind of contraption that as soon as the patient presses the button it does it automatically, all the dr does is put the drip in.........i guess that would be the way to do it.

Apparently, the govenment are doing The Right To Die as opposed to The Right To Buy ("your council house....")

Think companies are going to get smarmy salesmen to canvass for it....:D

Seriously though, it's a hard one this.

Yes, if someone is in excruciating pain and WANTED to end their life they should have the choice.

BUT.....

How do you govern it?

It's a toughie and no mistake.......

This is the main reason why I don't agree with. I reckon if somebody wants to die they should do the honours themselves. I know some people can't do the act themselves, but they shouldn't expect a doctor or nurse to do the deed.

Nobody should have to have peoples deaths on their conscience.

Thats a really good point, i hadn't even thought about that.

I know its not quite the same, but vets do the same thing to animals to end their needless suffering so surley if the patient has expressed thier wishes to end the suffering they are experiencing then as a doctor/nurse or whatever it is their job to do so??

wouldnt that be classed as suicide ? not sure but it sounds a bit like an assisted suicide.

id rather die than live the rest of my life like a cabbage

We all need youth in Asia to knock up our cheap imported goods, without them our pennies wouldn't stretch as far:thumbsup: :)
