I've just listened to
Deadmau5- Bounce.
I liked it in that it isn't unpleasant to listen to but........
I can't help alikening it to a cross between any dritte Raum track & Mr Oizo- Flat Beat from 9 or 10 years ago.

Ok so I read some peoples views and thought I would have another listen

Carl Cox - I Want You (Deadmau5 Remix)

YouTube - Carl Cox - I Want You (Deadmau5 Remix)

Can anybody honestly say this is remotely good???

No, it's crap.
Minimal was never going to make for a good remix of that track. I don't like the original of it anyway. I would imagine that he hasn't asked to do the mix, but rather a record company has asked him, because minimal is 'in' ??? Or I would hope so. If not, he has a very poor grasp of doing justice to the original track.
Just like all these shite 'electro' mixes popping up as well. Electro my arse.

A minimal track that I do like...

YouTube - Deadmau5 - Alone With You

I don't mind hearing this tune at home with a nice of tea tapping my fingers to it!!! but this would anoy me in a club it would make me shout!!! "does this tune do anything else" LMAO!!!

It's one of them tunes you know a DJ will be using Abletion Live repeating bars/stuttering etc dragging the tune on even longer painfull just thinking about it!!!

Cano bought the 'dj' magazine the other day, it had a long interview with deadmau5 and i was rather shocked to read he has never spun a record or cd in his life, as he stated he was a new generation of artists and he also believed the 'dj' would become less and less needed or something along those lines, i need to read it again, anyway i was quite shocked at that.

So if this happens & it goes totaly Ableton etc a few years down the line i wonder if they will be saying they don't need Producers anymore we makes tunes on the fly with a beat repeat here & a stutter & there!!!! haha sounds like Old MacDonal!!! Digital DJ's are going to get Extremly Cockey in the future!!!

There is nothing a digital DJ will do more than Q-Bert amazing me with his bare hands!!! Best DJ ever!!!

YouTube - DJ Qbert in Paris part1

YouTube - DJ Qbert in Paris part2

YouTube - DJ Qbert in Paris part3 <---- Just totaly out of this world answering the beatboxer!!!

YouTube - Dj Q-bert - Wave Twisters Extra scene @home <------ Say! What! Say! What! funny & amazing at the same time!!! He has a great sense of humor as well!!!

YouTube - Do It Yourself Scratching 2 <----- Q-Bert in the background i could'nt stop laughing at this!!!

I must admit that i have gone to 'the dark side' because I can no longer afford to buy vinyl.
For manipulation, you are unable to beat the hands on approach of vinyl, but digital is catching up. (obviously, I'm assuming that the guy in the vid will never be skilled as Q-Bert anyway :) )
YouTube - Scratching in Ableton Live: ammobox

I think for what that bloke is doing (unless I'm missing something obvious), he may as well just be on decks. If however, he's playing it as part of a set & gets all the ableton blends etc...then I can see the advantages.

EDIT: I meant to say good old OSA- from minimal to hip hop- the logical progression :)

I don't think Qbert's style is that good myself, he is talented there's no doubt there but his patterns and timing are too 'freestyle' for me if ya get me.

Also in his clips of Paris 1 & 2, did anyone else find it boring that he only used 1 scratch record in those clips and played from a dat or minidisc a pre-mixed section of tracks to scratch over? The art in a DJ to me is mixing and scratching to keep you interested, not just scratching over something you put together in a studio.

Comparing minimal and hip hop though  :axe:

Heard a few and played a few of his end of last year but they dated very quickly, even more put off by the baseball cap and the whole boring ableton thing :naughty:

Its too programmed and each tune follows the same boring formula.

There's so much better out there by the likes of Gui Boratto, Robert Babicz, Guy Gerber, Gregor Thresher and Audiofly if you like that style :D

To make it more challenging both contestants have to switch from a hiphop track/beat etc to a minimal one & then back again.
