In our defence....
Two months of intensive debate on the cards again here and no doubt many who were there first time round will immediately adopt a purist attitude which is understandable given the love people still have for the original. But there are other factors to consider here. Our chart is dominated now by major labels and US acts with astronomical a&r and marketing budgets and whilst this new interpretation is a million miles from the original, I would urge people to consider them as mutually exclusive, applaud our efforts and consider how important it is that UK artists / producers and independent labels are given airtime by Tv and radio and still able to compete and break into the top 40. Whichever way you look at it, the music industry is suffering and we want to make a statement on behalf of homegrown talent that British dance music artists can still break through the monopolistic ringfence without David Guetta or Beyonce involved, in the same way Together did back in 1990.
So many comments on old skool you tube clips these days relate to wanting to be transported back to the way things were 20 years ago and irrespective of what you think about the tune itself, the lyrics were intended to let the acid house generation know we all share those same feelings because we were there too. It’s very easy to be critical about the commercial nature of the track but if you stand it alongside the Guru Josh revamp (for example), at least the lyrics were styled to let people think about their hazy rave days again with a smile (irrespective of whether you would still want to dance to it in a field as the sun comes up). We also used an MC from Manchester in keeping with the songs roots and strong Hacienda associations. The track is fun, so is the video and I hope people will listen to the extended club mix too before passing judgement based on the radio edit alone. So far, the feedback from the people who have been open minded enough to consider all these factors has been wholly positive and that goes for many people who were there from the beginning who have already swamped us via the facebook group with messages of support.
