Right then pop pickers - Bit of a phase I'm going through but I'm on the lookout for ambient old skool records - preferably of a slower tempo - pre 92.
The kind of stuff I'm on about which I've already got are Voices Of Africa, Johnny Panic & The Bible Of Dreams, more or less anything remixed by the orb, owt by One Dove or Innocence, Orchestra JB, Electra, Audio Deluxe, Grid, etc.
I was wondering if anyone could direct me to any other stuff that fits the bill of that type of thing?

Cheers for them fella's.

I went searching for a tune by FSOL called PNG until it dawned on me it was Papua New Guinea - d'oh.

I've ordered the Prefab Sprout + Sub Sub tunes using my "halved" credit card.

Although it absolutely fits the bill I've already got Less Stress - Don't Dream It's Over. My favourite track on the original release of that is A New Dawn which is a stripped down version of Don't Dream It's Over with loads of samples from the concert at Woodstock - top little track.

The Mental Generation track is a bit of a bugger to track down - was it on the original Cafe Del Mar album?

Yep it was mate - along with a load of great stuff I jus remembered:

JB Orchestra - Free spirit (uses the spirits fall down on me vocal)
JB Orchestra - Come alive
Audio Deluxe - 60 seconds
Corporation of One - real life
Primal Scream - Come Together (Weatherall mix)
St Ettiene - Only love can break your heart (Weatherall mix)

Excellent - a load more suggestions in the time I've written a reply - I was only replying to the first two an all.

Back on the internet armed with credit card for me then.

Does anyone else remember YBU - Soul Magic - it was a really slow (about 100bpm) tune that came out on Italian Flying - that started off with a really nice repetitive keyboard riff with a hypnotic female vocal repeating "yeah - Feel it" before eventually adding a funky beat and james brown "pass the peas" style guitar lick - definitly in my all time top 10 - caned on the boys own/flying circuit about 1991 - if you see this geddit - you will not be dissapointed

Some of the stuff on Screamadelica might be worth a listen
Aphex Twin's Ambient Works 88-92 is OK as well (the one with the black & white cover, dont buy the second volume cos it's absolute shite)
Best Orb albums are Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld and UFO, don't bother with anything after that!
Weatheralls mix of Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart is a good un
One of the William Orbit 'Strange Cargo' albums is quite good as well, I know it's william orbit but he used to be much better then, honest! Think it's volume 3 that's the best, at work at the moment so I can't check

Got a few of the tunes already mentioned. That said – oh deary, deary me my credit cards been busy today.

Can anyone give us the cat# of the Chris Rea track?

Btw the reason I’m after these tunes was I did a compilation of chilled old skool tracks (of which the mixing was incredibly tight even if I do say so myself).
The track listing was:

Less Stress - A New Dawn (Boys Own Productions 1990)
Voice Of Africa - Hoomba Hoomba (Tam Tam Records 1990)
Tears For Fears - Johnny Panic And The Bible Of Dreams, Mix One (Fontana 1990)
FKW - Romeo & Juliet (Next Plateau 1991)
Black Box - Fantasy, Rapcapella (Deconstruction 1990)
Black Box - Fantasy, Remixed Intro (Deconstruction 1990)
Innocence - Natural Thing, Elevation (Cooltempo 1990)
Erasure - Ship Of Fools, Orbital Southsea Isles Of Holy Beats Mix (Mute 1990)
Grid - Flotation, Sonic Swing Mix (WEA 1990)
Electra - Autumn Love, Future 3 (ffrr 1989)
One Dove - Fallen, Monday Morning At Bobby N's Mix (Boys Own Productions 1992)
Orchestra JB - Free Spirit, Slow Burn (Beat Club Records 1990)
St. Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart, A Mix Of Two Halves (Heavenly 1990)
Zoe - Sunshine On A Rainy Day, Instrumental (WAU! Mr Modo 1990)
Zoe - Sunshine On A Rainy Day, Rain Dance Mix (WAU! Mr Modo 1990)

This has proved to be a bit of a fave. As such I was after doing another compilation of a similar nature and I was running low on similar tunes. Looks like I'm gonna be able to do a third one at this rate:D

Cheers WYDS. I'm not entirely sure what the Don Carlos tune goes like. as for Erasure, great track I've got 2 copies.
