Dont the "Room" type venues work best in this type of situation?. Im no expert and could be talking out my arse, but years ago at (ashamedly) Peppermint Palace (when it turned into its first reincarnation after that) used to have 3 rooms. Room 1 *the MAIN area* was for your shite cheese and punters who couldnt give a fook about what was played as long as they could get pissed and try and shag the bird next to him on the dancefloor. This is what they must have seen as being the *main* punter volume for that area as it was the biggest bit. Room 2 was More of the olderskool variety with the occasional new tune/deeper 'more specialised' house thrown in for the oldskoolers and newcomers to hear something different to the pop club music if they wanted to........ Room 3 was errrm I dont remember (as I was always in room 2!) When there was a 'special' promotion night on, the rooms would get switched about so say the Old Skool bit was in the *main* bit as thats the desired punters for the night and for those who werent really into it could dissapear into the cheesier popier rooms... I must agree that its a shame that stuff being banded about as Zone is now just yer average poncy nightclub tackle, because thats was what made the Zone a winner in someways because it didnt follow like sheep and was a truely unique night to go to. Everybody has theyre era. I think zone lost the plot after mid 1994, some say "well it wasnt as good as 97" or sommet, but that was in the majority 'a bag of toss' to me by then anyway. You cant blame Zone for punters not coming if they are fed up of italian tunes, but on the other side of the coin Zone should perhaps remember what made it special in the first place which is INDIVIDUALITY from the other clubs down the road etc. I have never been to maximes, so I dont know the layout, but rooms used to work pretty well as far as Im concerned as a punter at Blackburn all those years ago. I didnt want pop club music so I dissapeared into a more deeper house/oldskool area instead :). Buttys right too, Im getting sick of hearing about Zone on here. Its not the be all and end all of the scene.......... Sirius.
