My first rave club experience was at Sin at the Astoria in December 1988. Me and a friend travelled up from Devon on the train. I took my first ecstasy pill there (£25!) It was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. The feeling of love and togetherness was palpable. EVERYONE was so friendly and chill. Dancing on the tables on the balcony looking down on the dance floor was out of this world. While I was up there, "Ride on time" by Black Box came on, (It was the first time I heard that track). The entire place went crazy and every single person cheered and whistles. I never had goosebumps like that before or since. Me and my friend just looked at each other in absolute amazement and joy. No words needed to be spoken, we both knew what the other was thinking and feeling. After it closed at 3am we joined a group of people outside the Odeon across the street. Someone pulled up a van on the pavement, opened the back doors, and it had a sound system inside, we danced and chilled with our new "friends" for a few more hours before we took the train home again. After that we were hooked. Soon a scene began in Plymouth and we went every weekend but we always travelled to London once a month to go to Sin at the Astoria. O nthe later visits we would go to the Limelight club a couple doors down for a Sunday all dayer afterwards. Those were the best days of my life and will never be matched.
