was wondering if this was just and East Midland thing , so spose this thread is the place to ask :D
it was only the 3 east midlanders at work who knew it though, so here goes :

if you are twiddling/ twirling your hair around your finger, we'd say that is : to piggle your hair

anyone else? anyone? ....anyone...one..one...?

:D

Yeah, I've heard that used but more in relation to picking and biting at fingernails or other such nervous/OCD behaviour! It's not a Brummie phrase though, my folks are from Kirkby-In-Ashfield (north Notts) and it's from there. A lot of the other phrases you've mentioned ('mashing' tea, m'duck and others) are things I've heard while visiting relatives in Kirkby. Might just be an East Midlands thing?

Was working back in Leicester the other week and heard a phrase i'd not heard for years, more from when we were kids and not allowed to use swear words I think :D

"Going for a bob" ~ which means going for a sh*t

Also was saying the other day that when youre a kid and on about getting told off we used to say "dont tell my mum, i'll get knackered" / "she'll knacker me" as in a bollocking but for some reason you didnt say get a knackering, it was always get knackered

at least it makes sense in that knackers and bollocks are the same thing but find it weird how it was only acceptable said in a certain way :D

in the same vein... calling someone a fat knacker was a common insult back then, lol. Think thats all over the country though..isnt it?

Other thing is... as well as being semi-interchangeable with bollocks, bollocking & bollocked, knackered also means buggered dunnit. Buggered as in fucked. :D

I know sometimes people say stuff like "that car's bollocksed", but it's not quite the same thing... or is it? Discuss!

In a similar vein, when we were kids, round ar way knackered would often get shortened to knacked.

"If me mother finds out I'm up the stick she'll knack us"
"How man divvent dee that man else yull knack it"
"Ahm ganna knack yee for that like"
"Chrissy Waddle's knacked now like but he's still Sunderland's best player".
etc.
