My piss is well and truly boiled

I bought a car off eBay, Rover 75 Auto for my Mum. It was declared as a non runner due to fuel pump failure, which is common on that model. Decided to have a bid, won it, duly picked it up with the recovery truck and brought it back to the garage. Mechanic sets to work replacing fuel pump (££), which was indeed knackered. Tried to start car - no good. It's immobilised, and the remote key is not working. I call out a specialist, who plugs it into the Rover Testbook computer and resets the immobiliser (£££) and after much messing about the car is finally running. Great! Lets take it for a test drive...100 yards down the road, no drive to the gearbox. The gearbox is shafted, the seller MUST have known. Gonna cost about £800 to put right even at mates rates from the gearbox specialist   I feel like going back to his house and putting the truck through his living room window while he's watching telly :ba:

Just needed to get that off my chest, what a crappy day :| Rant over, as you were!

no way Mike thats shit mate. i'd go back round if it was me and have a word. Proper cheeky cnuts trick that.

Very tempted mate! Bugger lives 50-odd miles away though in the arse-end of nowhere (Hereford). I knew it was too close to Wales to be safe - I have a general rule to never buy cars from Wales as every single one has been a misdescribed shed on wheels. I did get a good one once, but the people had only just moved there from Dorset so they don't count ;) Starting to unwind now and feeling better, a couple of beers seem to have helped! Hope you had a good birthday by the way mate, and all the best for the gig at the weekend

Oh, they're not all bad - I've bought literally hundreds of cars from eBay over the last 7 years and I've had some great deals. I'm in the trade and take the rough with the smooth. When I sell on there though, I always tell the truth. The truth can be subjective - some people genuinely won't notice faults or don't recognize them for what they are. But to blatantly lie about something as crucial as that, I couldn't do it - I wouldn't be able to sleep at night!

The car is fixable, but it wouldn't be economically viable to do so. Plus I may fix it and find even more stuff wrong with it - I still haven't driven it more than 100 yards! Think I'll have to call it a day and sell it on, faults declared, and hope to get some of my money back :ba:
