It used to be one of my main record shops especially 91-92. I had no idea that it moved to Manchester :S

Was it because of the redevelopment nearby in it's old spot, or just lack of punters through the door?

It was certainly a better place for finding stuff when they opened the basement towards the end of it's life and had all the decks set up for us to use, as I couldn't be arsed hanging around for hours waiting for them to drop something I liked after i'd bought the id'd tunes on my wantlist.

Used to go there quite a bit between about 92-94. Always found Pru, Mike and the guy with a dark haired ponytail (whose names escapes me but I think he told me DJ'd at Sankeys in Manc?) the most friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff I've ever come across in a record store.

Used to love listening a big pile of new tunes downstairs. Pru even used to sell secondhand tunes on your behalf for a while (for a small share of the profits) if they could sell which I always thought was an excellent idea for both sides. Did well out of this as used to bring up secondhand tunes from London which I'd got for a quid and knew were popular up north. Even if it didn't sell you got your tunes back

The black guy with the pony tail was Mike Stewart wasn't it? & Mark Curry I think with pony tail and glasses worked there too sometimes, he did Monroes for a bit if I remember right. Stopped going as much after 93 but always bobbed in while it was there . One of the last visits I recall when they were selling all the second hand stuff in the racks on the right as you went in I was buying some old tunes off a young whippersnapper who I found out years later went by the name if Cano :eyebrow:

Thanks Bod - It was Mark Curry I was thinking of.

The Mike I was thinking of was white and had a moustache - seemed to have good contacts in Italy and the US regarding imports. Always assumed he was the joint owner with Pru, but never asked......

Actually I'm not 100% sure if he did have a moustache! Was an older guy anyhow (well older than me cos I was only 19-21 at the time!)
