There are a few tasks in the office you should avoid at all costs, as no matter how well you do them, you are guaranteed to annoy at least 50% of the staff. These include choosing the staff uniform and organising the Christmas party. I'd like to add another one to that list... Today, I'm writing the company Acceptable Internet Usage Policy.

I've gathered a few policies from other companies to look at. Somehow I think the point outlawing "postings to newsgroups, bulletin boards and forums" might not make it into my version. I know our company is just looking to cover itself should it need to take action against anything offensive found on someone's PC, and I certainly wont be switching on any internet monitoring and logging, but it still makes the person who has to write and stick that policy out to everyone look bad.

i think internet use should be allowed in the workplace, as long as you dont take the piss

if somebody tells you not to do something your gonna go ahead n do it anyways ;)

our tinternet is monitored at work and staff still use it but they know when they are taking the piss, especially when you get an engineer on £130 an hour just sat looking at holidays blatantly infront of other staff thats just plain wrong

We've just been totally limited at our place with Websense. You have to use "quota time" to view the web. You get a total of an hour - 15 mins in the morn then afternoon and 30mins lunch.

I'm lucky as I use the web for work, so only really have hotmail limited.

Stinks though...just because a few people have been caught taking the piss (porn sites), its spoilt it for everyone.
